【Relics Become Icons】 Jin Gong Plate

Beyond the playful design, Duke Wen of Jin also had 183 characters inscribed in seven places on the basin. He traced the glorious achievements of his ancestors and praised his own governance of the Jin State. By doing so, he sought to highlight the prosperity of Jin—but ultimately, his message was simple: let his daughter, married far from home, know that her family would always be her strongest support.

Today, this fatherly love pning millennia has been transformed into a movable refrigerator magnet. The magnet features an aluminum foil lamination process that gives its wooden base a metallic sheen. Gently shaking the handles on both sides causes the animals inside the basin to turn, creating the wondrous sight of creatures "swimming as if with nothing beneath them."
From an ancient hand-washing ritual to a playful object in the palm of your hand, the story of water and vessel has been awakened from history. Let this Jin Gong Plate gently tell the tale of a hegemon's political cunning and a father's tender love, rippling across time and space.
