Wu Lingyun - A Thousand Years of Guan Gong

Guan Gong is highly known and influential among Chinese and around the world.

For thousands of years, Guan Gong has evolved from a historical hero to an embodiment of “loyalty, righteousness, benevolence, and courage”.

Today, wherever there are Chinese people around the world, there are Guan Gong stories circulating.

Wu Lingyun, Famous Jin Opera Artist, National First-class Actor

Wu Lingyun has been performing in Jin opera for more than 40 years, including more than 30 years as Guan Gong, earning him the nickname “The Living Guan Gong of Chinese Jin Opera”.

Wu Lingyun comes from a family of Jin opera performers, with both parents holding a place in the contemporary Jin opera art field.

He has been intelligent and enlightened since he was young, starting to study opera at the age of 8.

At the age of 18, he had already won a gold medal. When he was 21 years old, his father taught him the Guan Gong play in Jin Opera.

Over the years, Wu Lingyun has deeply studied the statue of Guan Yu, carefully designed every move and style,

He not only inherits the essence of his parents’ performance, but also stands on the quality of Guan Gong’s “loyalty and righteousness”

He has been working hard on highlighting character image, artistic innovation, and presentation style.

His portrayal of Guan Gong is both heroic and relatable, which has earned him a large following among theater fans

From 19 to 22 April, 2023 Hong Kong International Licensing Show and Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and co-organized by the Hong Kong Exporters Association will be held at the Hong Kong International Convention and Exhibition Center.

Wu Lingyun will perform the Jin opera masterpiece “A Thousand Years of Guan Gong”live, showcasing the historical hero Guan Gong in contemporary China.
