Shanxi Taiyuan | The May Day holiday saw a surge in inbound and outbound tourism

According to statistics, during this year's May Day holiday,the border inspection authorities across China handled a total of 8.466 million exit-entry Chinese and overseas travelers, marking an increase by 35.1 percent from the same period last year. During the holiday, the number of the exit-entry travelers from the Chinese mainland reached 4.768 million, reflecting a 38 percent increase year-on-year; the number from China's Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR, and Taiwan region rose to 2.919 million, representing a 20.8 percent increase year-on-year; the number of the foreign nationals inspected reached 779,000, marking a 98.7 percent increase over the same period last year.

During this year's May Day holiday, the growth rate of outbound travel orders in Shanxi exceeded that of domestic travel. Among provincial capitals, the cities with the fastest growth in inbound tourism orders were Urumqi, Xi'an, Hangzhou, Kunming, Hefei, Chengdu, Lhasa, Harbin, Jinan, and Taiyuan. Taiyuan City ranked among the top ten nationwide.

In terms of outbound travel, Hong Kong, Macao, Southeast Asia, Japan, and South Korea were popular destinations for short-haul trips during this May Day holiday, while the main long-haul destinations were the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom. Countries in the Middle East such as Oman, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait showed high growth rates for outbound travel. Among distant countries, Spain, Turkey, Austria, Slovenia, Italy, and Georgia also showed high growth rates for outbound travel.
