The 8th Pingyao International Film Festival Opened

On September 24th, the 8th Pingyao International Film Festival was grandly opened in the ancient city of Pingyao. Zhang Jifu,member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Shanxi Provincial Committee and director of Publicity Department of Shanxi Province, delivered a speech and announced the opening of the festival. Leaders such as Li Jingze, member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice Chairman of the China Writers Association, Mao Yu, Executive Deputy Director General of China Film Administration, and Lu Liang, Deputy Director, attended the opening ceremony. Chinese director Chen Kaige received the "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon East-West Award."

In his speech, Zhang Jifu stated that the successful holding of the 8th Pingyao International Film Festival would inject new vitality into the art of film, provide film fans with an audiovisual feast, and add cultural brilliance to the celebration of National Day.

During the opening ceremony, film directors from both China and abroad, including Chen Kaige, actors such as Wang Xueqi, and numerous figures from the film industry gathered at the Pingyao Film Palace. Literary guests such as Ouyang Jianghe were also invited to attend. The opening ceremony featured a diverse array of performances. Singer Wei Wei sang "Daughter's Song" and "All There Is"; Zhang Zimo, a singer from Taiyuan, Shanxi, performed "The Time Here Waits for People". Additionally, the founder of the film festival, Jia Zhangke, and representatives of the shortlisted directors from both China and abroad sang "Don't Worry Be Happy" together.

The Pingyao International Film Festival has been held for eight consecutive years. Over these eight years, more than 5,000 filmmakers from over 50 countries and regions have participated in the festival with more than 400 films, attracting over 1.7 million visitors to Pingyao.

This year's festival is themed "Earth," running from September 24th to September 30th. The festival comprises four main sections: screening, industry, academic events, and education. Nearly 60 films will be screened, six "Masterclass·Dialogue" academic events will be held, 16 "Pingyao Project Promotion" screenplay projects will be introduced, and 17 literary works under the "Literary Picturized Project" will be showcased to audiences. Among the official selections, films hail from 22 countries and regions, with 43.9% of them being world premieres, 75.6% being Asian premieres, and 100% of them being premiered in Mainland China.
