The World Heritage Tentative List(2017) of Shanxi Province -Taihang Mountain

Taihang Mountain, an imposing mountain range pning across Shanxi, Henan, and Hebei provinces, stands as a vital symbol of China's landform and historical culture, thanks to its unique natural scenery and abundant historical and cultural resources. In 2017,Taihang Mountain(including its Shanxi section) was inscribed on the UNESCO Tentative List of World Heritage Sites.

Taihang Mountain marks the eastern edge of the second terrain step in China and serves as the eastern boundary of the Loess Plateau. Here, Zhangshiyan landforms are widely developed, featuring towering cliffs and an awe-inspiring presence. These serve as geological records of landform evolution and intense uplift of the mountain range in North China since the Neogene period. This unique landform landscape not only enhances the magnificent natural beauty of Taihang Mountain but also makes it a focal point for geological researchers and tourists.

Apart from its natural scenery,Taihang Mountain also carries a wealth of historical and cultural heritage. It is one of the important cradles of ancient Chinese civilization, leaving behind numerous precious historical relics and human landscapes.
