Datong Will Open First International Route With a Direct Four-hour Flight to Bangkok
To welcome the peak tourist season during winter vacations, New Year's Day, the Spring Festival, and other holidays, and to meet the travel demand of tourists during the winter and spring seasons, Datong Yungang International Airport will open a regular direct flight from Datong to Bangkok on December 18th. This will be the first international flight route launched since the official opening of the international aviation port at Datong Yungang International Airport.
The route will operate twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The flight schedule is as follows: Flight SL8111 departs from Datong to Bangkok at 16:00, arriving at 20:00 local time; Flight SL8110 departs from Bangkok to Datong at 09:00 local time, arriving at 15:00. Special introductory fares for the inaugural flights are now available, with one-way tickets from Datong to Bangkok starting at 399 yuan, one-way tickets from Bangkok to Datong starting at 99 yuan, and round-trip tickets between Datong and Bangkok starting at 699 yuan. Tickets can be purchased at all civil aviation ticket offices, travel agencies, and online platforms.
In 2024, Datong Yungang International Airport saw rapid growth in passenger and cargo traffic. It now operates 17 routes, serves 25 cities, and partners with 9 airlines, significantly increasing its openness to the outside world. That same year, visa-free travel between China and Thailand was introduced. In 2025, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Datong will launch a direct flight to Bangkok. This initiative will boost bilateral tourism, raise Datong's international profile, and help establish the city as a global cultural and tourism destination.
