小西天
Xiaoxitian
Xiaoxitian, also known as the Thousand-Buddha Temple, is located atop Fenghuang Mountain, about half a kilometer west of Xixian County in Shanxi Province. Built tiered along the mountainside, the temple’s beams and frames are adorned with magnificent and elegant painted decorations. Its exceptionally challenging thousand-plus suspended sculptures are hailed as the “masterpiece of suspended sculpture” in the history of Chinese sculptural art. When light filters through the window lattices, the colored sculptures throughout the main hall shimmer with brilliant hues, truly creating the luminous effect of a “glazed world.”

Feihong Pagoda
Situated within the scenic area of Guangsheng Temple in Hongtong County, Shanxi, the 500-year-old Feihong Pagoda is a pinnacle achievement of Ming dynasty glazed ceramics and also the largest and most complete glazed pagoda in China. The glazed veneer covering the entire pagoda reflects the superb craftsmanship and wisdom of Shanxi’s folk kiln techniques, making it a representative masterpiece among Chinese glazed pagodas. On clear winter days, the Feihong Pagoda glitters radiantly under the sunlight, casting a mysterious and dazzling glow amidst the evergreen pines and cypresses.
