Dragon Hunt in Shanxi——Unlock the Story of the First Dragon-keeper

The dragon-keeper whose surname is 豢龙(raising dragon)once raised dragons for the Emperor Shun(the name of a legendary monarch in ancient China). And he was bestowed the title in Wenxi County, Shanxi Province.

According to the Legend of Spring and Autumn Century by Zuo Qiuming, there was a man named Dong Fu who was skilled in raising dragons by understanding the habits and appetites of them during the reign of Emperor Shun. When Emperor Shun heard of this, he was very delighted, so he recruited Dong Fu and asked him to raise the dragon specially for the royal family. But the dragon was a holy creature that only drank the sweet spring. In order to raise the dragon, Dong Fu searched for a suitable spring everywhere. Finally he found a huge spring which featured the

clear and bright water in Wenxi County. It was the holy land of raising the dragon. He was so joyful that he decided to settle down there. Because of the merit of Dong Fu, Shun nominated it "the Country of Dong Fu". And this is where Dong Fu raised dragons.

The story of Dong Fu raising dragons has been spread in Shanxi for more than 4,000 years since Shun gave the surname to Dong Fu. This marked  the beginning of Dong clan’s continuity. The descendants of Dong have reached more than eight million all over China up to now, and Dong has become the 29th largest Chinese surname.

There are many classical records about the dragon, which have been constantly rendered in ancient classics and handed down for thousands of years since Dong Fu, enhancing the dragon's image to become more mysterious and sublime. Therefore, the cultural form with the "dragon" culture as the center is formed. And it brings the "Oriental Dragon" spirit symbol of the Chinese nation, which is incomparable to any nation in the world due to the migration of the Chinese nation respectively.
