Shua Haier is one of the local operatic genres in Shuozhou, also known as"Haihai opera”,which was estimated to be originated from the Yuan Dynasty. It was developed from the tunes of "Ban She Diao · Shua Haier" ,which was popular during the Jin and Yuan Dynasties under the influence of other opera music and folk songs.
Shua Haier has a long history of more than 600 years, and is regarded as a "living fossil in the history of theatre" by experts.
Due to its unique vocal pronunciation methods, lively and energetic percussion music, wide-ranging repertoire and distinctive style of performance,Shua Haier is deeply loved by local audiences in Shuozhou
