How dark were the nights during the Western Han dynasty? Don't worry—the Shanxi Museum has a piece of "high-tech" lighting magic that could give you a smoke-free experience over 2,000 years ago. It's the Bronze Wild Goose-and-Fish Lamp.

1986年，这盏灯出土于山西省临汾市襄汾县吴兴庄，如今是国家一级文物，稳坐山西博物院的“C位展柜”。通高50余厘米，整体造型是一只鸿雁回首衔鱼，伫立在那里，古朴中透着优雅，精致又独特。鸿雁体态丰满，双目圆睁，颈部修长；那条被衔住的鱼则短肥可爱，与灯罩巧妙相连——不仅好看，更藏着汉代设计师的满满心机。

Unearthed in 1986 in Wuxingzhuang, Xiangfen County, Linfen City, Shanxi Province, this lamp is now a national first-class cultural relic and holds a prime spot in the Shanxi Museum. Standing over 50 centimeters tall, it takes the form of a wild goose turning its head back to hold a fish in its beak. With its ancient charm and elegant, unique design, the goose has a plump body, wide-open eyes, and a slender neck. The fish, short and chubby, is cleverly connected to the lamp shade—not only beautiful to look at, but also packed with the thoughtful ingenuity of Han dynasty designers.

这盏灯的“黑科技”藏在结构里。它由雁首、雁体、灯盘和灯罩四部分组成，可以自由拆卸组装。鱼腹下方连接着两块弧形屏板和带把手的灯盘，通过转动调节，既能挡风，又能控制灯光的亮度和方向。更神奇的是，当灯火点燃时，油烟会通过雁颈被导入雁腹的清水中溶解——没错，2000多年前的西汉人，已经用上了“水过滤”技术。说它是世界上最早的“环保灯”，一点也不夸张。

The "black technology" of this lamp lies in its structure. It consists of four parts: the goose's head, the goose's body, the lamp plate, and the lamp shade, all of which can be freely disassembled and reassembled. Below the fish's belly are two curved lampshades and a lamp plate with a handle. By rotating and adjusting them, you can block the wind and control the brightness and direction of the light. Even more amazing: when the flame is lit, the smoke is drawn through the goose's hollow neck into the goose's body, where it dissolves in clean water. That's right—over 2,000 years ago, people in the Western Han dynasty were already using a "water filtration" system. It's no exaggeration to call it the world's earliest "eco-friendly lamp."
