Create Your Own Woodblock New Year Painting: A Shanxi Intangible Cultural Heritage Workshop

山西，作为中华文明的重要发源地之一，拥有丰富的非物质文化遗产，其中绛州木版年画便是其中的瑰宝。绛州木版年画起源于北宋，兴盛于明清，至今已有千余年历史。它以鲜艳的色彩、生动的形象和深刻的寓意闻名，题材涵盖门神、侍女、戏曲故事、祈福等，反映了百姓对美好生活的向往。

Shanxi, as one of the important birthplaces of Chinese civilization, boasts a rich intangible cultural heritage, among which Jiangzhou woodblock New Year paintings are a gem. Originating in the Northern Song Dynasty and flourishing in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Jiangzhou woodblock New Year paintings have a history of over a thousand years. Renowned for their vibrant colors, vivid images, and profound symbolism, these paintings cover themes such as door gods, maidservants, opera stories, and blessings, reflecting the people's aspirations for a better life.

在山西非遗工作坊中，游客可以亲手体验木版年画的制作过程。首先，传承人会指导游客用棕刷蘸取墨汁，均匀地刷在雕刻好的木版上，再将宣纸轻轻覆盖，用趟子从中心向四周推平，最后轻轻揭起，一幅栩栩如生的年画便跃然纸上。

In the Shanxi Intangible Cultural Heritage Workshop, visitors can personally experience the process of making woodblock New Year paintings. Firstly, under the guidance of a master, visitors use a brown brush to dip in ink and evenly apply it to the carved woodblock. Then, they gently lay a piece of Xuan paper over it and use a brayer to smooth it out from the center towards the edges. Finally, by carefully lifting it up, a lifelike New Year painting emerges on the paper.

近年来，山西多次举办非遗体验活动，吸引了众多海内外游客。2024年7月，绛州木版年画传承人吴百锁在新绛县王守村举办了“弘扬德孝文化”主题活动，现场教村民和嘉宾制作年画，展现了非遗技艺的魅力。2025年春节期间，太原美术馆设置了木版年画互动体验区，吸引了大量游客参与，甚至还有外国留学生亲手制作年画，并将其作为“可带走的文化记忆”带回家。

In recent years, Shanxi has hosted numerous intangible cultural heritage experience activities, which have attracted a large number of domestic and international tourists. In July 2024, Wu Baisuo, an inheritor of Jiangzhou woodblock New Year paintings, organized a thematic event titled "Promoting the Culture of Virtue and Filial Piety" in Wangshou Village, Xinjiang County. At the event, he taught villagers and guests on-site how to make New Year paintings, showcasing the charm of this intangible cultural heritage skill. During the Spring Festival in 2025, the Taiyuan Art Museum set up an interactive experience area for woodblock New Year paintings, which attracted a large number of tourists to participate. Even foreign exchange students got to make New Year paintings with their own hands and took them home as a "portable cultural memory".
