Paper-cutting Art Workshop: Skillful Hands Craft the Charm of Shanxi

山西剪纸，作为中国民间艺术的瑰宝，以其独特的艺术风格和深厚的文化底蕴闻名于世。山西剪纸题材丰富，既有传统的吉祥图案，如“年年有余”，也有反映民俗生活的场景，如婚嫁、节庆等。其技法多样，包括单色剪纸、染色剪纸、磁性剪纸等，尤其是广灵窗花和晋城磁性剪纸，以其细腻的刀工和鲜艳的色彩，成为山西剪纸的代表。

Shanxi paper-cutting, a gem of Chinese folk art, is renowned worldwide for its unique artistic style and profound cultural heritage. Shanxi paper-cutting boasts a rich variety of themes, encompassing traditional auspicious patterns such as "Abundance Year After Year," as well as scenes reflecting folk life, including weddings and festivals. Its techniques are diverse, including single-color paper-cutting, colored paper-cutting, and magnetic paper-cutting. In particular, Guangling window decorations and Jincheng magnetic paper-cutting stand out as representatives of Shanxi paper-cutting, renowned for their delicate craftsmanship and vibrant colors.  

山西剪纸的制作过程充满了艺术性与技巧性。首先，剪纸艺人会根据主题设计图案，用铅笔在红纸上勾勒出轮廓。接着，用剪刀或刻刀沿着线条精细剪刻，刀法要求稳、准、快，稍有不慎便会影响整体效果。对于复杂的图案，艺人会采用“折叠剪纸”技法，将纸张对折多次，剪出对称的图案，如团花、蝴蝶等。染色剪纸则需要先用宣纸剪出图案，再用颜料点染，形成色彩斑斓的效果。最后，将剪好的作品装裱或贴在窗户上，一幅充满山西风情的剪纸作品便完成了。

The process of creating Shanxi paper-cutting is both artistic and skillful. Firstly, paper-cutting artists design patterns based on the theme and sketch the outlines with a pencil on red paper. Next, they meticulously cut or carve along the lines using scissors or carving knives, requiring steady, precise, and swift movements, as any slight error can affect the overall effect. For intricate patterns, artists employ the "folded paper-cutting" technique, folding the paper multiple times to create symmetrical designs such as circular flowers and butterflies. For colored paper-cutting, artists first cut out patterns on Xuan paper and then apply pigments to create a colorful effect. Finally, the finished paper-cutting is mounted or pasted on windows, completing a work of art that exudes the charm of Shanxi.  

近年来，山西多地开展了丰富多彩的剪纸体验活动，吸引了众多游客和青少年参与。2024年7月，山西省工程职业技术学校邀请非遗传承人吴秀梅，带领学生们体验剪纸乐趣，剪出了团花、蝴蝶等精美作品，激发了青年一代对非遗文化的热爱。此外，2024年10月，“纸韵传情”山西省剪纸优秀作品展在中阳县举办，展出了118幅优秀作品，吸引了众多参观者驻足欣赏。

In recent years, various regions in Shanxi have organized a diverse range of paper-cutting experience activities, attracting numerous tourists and young people to participate. In July 2024, Shanxi Engineering Vocational and Technical School invited Wu Xiumei, an inheritor of intangible cultural heritage, to guide students in experiencing the joy of paper-cutting. They created exquisite works such as circular flowers and butterflies, sparking the younger generation's passion for intangible cultural heritage. Additionally, in October 2024, the "Paper Rhyme Conveys Emotions" Excellent Shanxi Paper-cutting Works Exhibition was held in Zhongyang County, showcasing 118 outstanding works that captivated many visitors who stopped to admire them.
