Expo 2025 Osaka: Eight Thematic Pavilions Exploring Life (Part 1)
The Expo 2025 Osaka, themed “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”, will feature eight signature pavilions at the heart of the venue. Designed by leading experts across various fields, these pavilions revolve around the core concept of “life”, inviting visitors to reflect on its essence and inspiring care for humanity, society, and the planet—laying the foundation for a future of shared prosperity. Today, we introduce the first four of these thematic pavilions.
Expanding Life – The Future of Life
Led by Professor Hiroshi Ishiguro of Osaka University and Director of the ATR Hiroshi Ishiguro Laboratory, the “Expanding Life” pavilion explores how technological progress can extend the possibilities of life. Designed with a streamlined “flowing water wall” concept, visitors enter through a waterfall-like passage to encounter AI robots crafted with cutting-edge technology. These exhibits envision a future where humans may transcend physical and environmental limitations, achieving a form of digital immortality. Covering advancements in technology, educational opportunities, and personal growth, the pavilion opens a gateway to the future.
Understanding Life – The Dynamic Balance of Life Pavilion
Curated by biologist and Aoyama Gakuin University Professor Shinichi Fukuoka, the “Understanding Life” pavilion delves into the mysteries of life and its dynamic equilibrium. Its design features a massive, gently floating roof, symbolizing the fluidity of life. Circular structures shift shape using gravity, wind, and water currents, maintaining a state of dynamic balance. After six months, the rings transform, much like a baton passed in the relay of life, returning to the grand cycle of existence. The pavilion explores life’s origins, evolution, and diversity, offering profound insights into its essence.
