On April 13, 2025, the highly anticipated World Expo grandly opened on Yumeshima, an artificial island in Osaka, Japan, and will run until October 13. This edition of the Expo has attracted 158 countries and 7 international organizations, presenting a cross-border cultural feast for visitors. Among the many spectacular pavilions, the Austria Pavilion, Spain Pavilion, Qatar Pavilion, and Singapore Pavilion stand out for their unique design concepts and cultural depth, becoming some of the highlights of this Expo.
Austria Pavilion – Composing the Future
The Austria Pavilion is hailed as “one of the coolest pavilions” for its innovative design. The design team skillfully blended Vienna’s cultural symbol as the “City of Music”—the musical staff—with the classic red-and-white stripes of the Austrian flag, creating a highly recognizable visual identity. The pavilion features a spiral-shaped structure with slightly inclined curves, which not only softens the building’s sense of enclosure but also vividly conveys the liveliness and dynamism of musical notes. This design perfectly embodies Austria’s cultural essence as a musical kingdom, allowing visitors to experience the rhythm of music through visual immersion.
Spain Pavilion – The Kuroshio Ocean
The Spain Pavilion takes “Kuroshio” (Black Current) as its theme, drawing inspiration from the maritime legends of the Age of Exploration that connected East and West. The pavilion’s design merges organic oceanic forms with symbols of solar energy, creating a vibrant exhibition space. Through this theme, the Spain Pavilion not only showcases the country’s historical role as a maritime power but also artfully intertwines the historical ties and natural forces between nations, offering visitors a cross-temporal cultural dialogue.
