This summer, the vibrant little monsters from Nobody struck a chord with countless viewers through their very “ordinary human” emotions, joys, and dreams. Their “journey to the west” seamlessly blends with Shanxi’s profound cultural heritage and stunning natural landscapes. As people have said, “The mountains of Langlang Mountain are originally the mountains of Shanxi.” Shanxi Culture and Tourism has specially launched two themed travel routes. This issue will take you along the southern Shanxi route to explore the sights of Changzhi and Jincheng that appeared in Langlang Mountain alongside the little monsters.

Changzhi · Chongqing Temple

In the film, the little monsters enter a mysterious cave where eighteen stone statues of various forms slowly emerge in the dim light—a scene highly reminiscent of the painted sculptures of the “Eighteen Arhats” in the Dashi Hall of Chongqing Temple in Changzhi. Nestled against the Ziyun Mountain dragon vein with protective ridges on both sides, the temple faces south, surrounded by mountains on three sides and rolling hills to the south. The eighteen Arhat statues in the Dashi Hall are acclaimed as the “best of Song Dynasty sculptures,” known for their distinct style and exquisite craftsmanship, holding significant historical and artistic value.

Changzhi · Taihang Mountain Grand Canyon

The mist-shrouded “Langlang Mountain” in the film draws inspiration from the Taihang Mountain Grand Canyon in Huguan, Changzhi. As a national forest park, it is renowned for its unique canyon landforms, peculiar peaks, and towering cliffs, often enveloped in clouds like a fairy-tale realm. Here, the “Sky City” elevator in Baquan Gorge ascends directly into the clouds, the thousand-year-old yew forest in Hongdou Gorge hides romantic legends, and the waterfall in Qinglong Gorge cascades like a silver river—making it an ideal summer destination.
