Communication University of Shanxi Alumni Bi Gan's "Resurrection" Wins Special Award at 78th Cannes Film Festival

2025年5月24日，第78届戛纳电影节获奖名单正式揭晓，山西传媒学院2008级毕业生毕赣凭作品《狂野时代》获特别奖。这是华语电影时隔十年再获戛纳主竞赛奖项。

On May 24, 2025, the winners of the 78th Cannes Film Festival were officially announced. Bi Gan, a 2008 graduate of Communication University of Shanxi, won the Special Award for his film Resurrection. This marks the first time in a decade that a Chinese-language film has received an award in the festival’s main competition.

《狂野时代》由毕赣执导，易烊千玺、舒淇主演，是今年唯一入围戛纳电影节主竞赛单元的华语片。

Resurrection, directed by Bi Gan and starring Yi Yangqianxi and Shu Qi, was the only Chinese-language film to enter the main competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

影片以梦境叙事和六段式结构探索影像边界，展现了独特的艺术风格和深刻的主题思考。

The film explores the boundaries of imagery through dreamlike storytelling and a six-part narrative structure, showcasing a unique artistic style and profound thematic depth.

Bi Gan’s Biography:

毕赣，1989年生于贵州凯里，山西传媒学院2008级编导专业毕业生。

Bi Gan was born in Kaili, Guizhou, in 1989 and graduated from Communication University of Shanxi in 2008 with a degree in directing.

2012年，他拍摄的黑白短片《金刚经》获得香港ifva电影节特别表扬奖。《路边野餐》是他大学毕业之后的第一部长片。2015年11月21日，毕赣凭借《路边野餐》获得第52届台湾电影金马奖最佳新导演奖。2016年，获得GQ年度人物盛典年度新锐导演奖；同年，其执导的作品《路边野餐》入选第14届俄罗斯海参崴国际电影节“聚焦中国”展映单元。2018年4月，由其执导的电影《地球最后的夜晚》入围了第71届戛纳国际电影节“一种关注单元”。2018年12月31日，导演的《地球最后的夜晚》上映。

In 2012, his black-and-white short film The Poet and Singer earned a Special Mention at the Hong Kong IFVA Film Festival. Kaili Blues was his first feature film after graduation. On November 21, 2015, Bi Gan won the Best New Director award at the 52nd Golden Horse Awards for Kaili Blues. In 2016, he received the GQ Men of the Year Award for Emerging Director, and the same year, Kaili Blues was selected for the “Focus on China” section of the 14th Vladivostok International Film Festival. In April 2018, his film Long Day’s Journey into Night was nominated in the “Un Certain Regard” section of the 71st Cannes Film Festival. On December 31, 2018, Long Day’s Journey into Night was released in theaters.
